Gallimore, Antioch rally past Grant

Paige Gallimore and recent call-up Alexis Duehr sparked a comeback win for Antioch’s girls basketball team Saturday.

Gallimore scored 10 of her game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter, hitting 4 of 5 free throws, and the freshman Duehr tallied 7 of her 9 points and added a steal in the fourth, allowing the Sequoits to pull out a 46-45 win over host Grant in North Suburban Conference Prairie Division action.

Antioch (14-8, 6-3) trailed 29-23 after three quarters before outscoring the Bulldogs 23-16 in the fourth.

Gallimore knocked down two 3-pointers in the game, while Duehr had a 3 in the fourth.

Grant (9-13, 4-5), which had its three-game winning streak snapped, was led in scoring by Deanna Rodriguez with 14 points. Rodriguez and Taylor Rossi (11 points) hit four and three 3-pointers, respectively. Kaylie Kanzler added 10 points for the Bulldogs.

Vernon Hills 81, Wauconda 11: Meri Bennett-Swanson scored a season-high 21 points, all in the first three quarters, as the host Cougars improved to 20-2 and 9-0 in the North Suburban Prairie Division.

Alina Lehocky (11 points, three 3-pointers), Lauren Webb (10 points) and Kasey Firnbach (10 points) also scored in double figures for Vernon Hills, which led 27-7 after one quarter, before outscoring the Bulldogs 21-0 in the second quarter. Sydney Smith scored all 8 of her points in the first quarter for the winners.

Wauconda (5-15, 2-8) received 3-pointers from Jessie Wood and Natalie Harding.

Stevenson 45, Libertyville 32: The Patriots celebrated Senior Day with their fifth win in a row, improving to 14-7 and 7-2 in the North Suburban Lake Division.

Sophia Way and Taylor Buford scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Stevenson, while senior Alex Elzinga added 8.

Libertyville (9-12, 4-5) received a game-high 15 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, from Olivia Mayer. Haley Hoeksel had 9 points for the Wildcats.

Palatine 51, Mundelein 42: Natalie Busscher scored 17 points for the host Mustangs, who fell to 7-14 with the nonconference loss.
