Wiedemann, Palatine finding the range

For the third straight game, Palatine’s McKenzie Wiedemann scored at least 20 points.

This time, the senior guard fired home 21 points on Saturday night as the Pirates topped host Mundelein 51-42 in the nonconference girls basketball game.

Sophomore forward Monica Masini added 10 points, followed by senior guard Nia Pappas (9) and junior forward Erin Mayer (8) as Palatine improved to 19-5 heading into Friday’s game at Conant.

Wiedemann was coming off a 25-point game against Barrington and 21 against Hoffman.

Schaumburg 64, Niles West 35: Amanda Kelly tossed home 24 points with 5 rebounds and 5 assists while teammate Carly Brossard added 13 points with 7 rebounds as the host Saxons improved to 11-11 with the nonconference win.

Jada Blackwell (4 assists) and Riley Williams (2 assists) each added 6 points for Schaumburg. Teammate Madison Laramie handed out 3 assists with 2 steals.

Conant 58, Addison Trail 53: For the second time in three games, Nireet Dhillon was a top scorer for Conant.

The 5-foot-5 freshman guard and 5-11 sophomore Haley Anderson each scored 12 points to lead the visiting Cougars.

Dhillon had 15 points when Conant topped Hoffman three games ago,

Juniors Morgan Retzer and Sarah Mazurek each added 7 points on Saturday for the Cougars, who improved to 9-12.

Dhillon, sophomore Dee Dee Durr and Mazurek each had a 3-pointer.

Huntley 54, Hoffman Estates 43: Destinee Young (12 points), Mary Saitta (9), Becca Stoczynski (7) and Andrea Wolinski (7) were tops scorers for visiting Hoffman (9-10) in the nonconference game.

Young led the Hawks with 10 rebounds, followed by Shante Hill (5) and Stoczynski (4). Hill had 4 assists and Stoczynski 3.

Cary-Grove 47, Hersey 40: Hersey led 19-18 at half but Cary-Grove (15-6) rallied in the final two quarters of the nonconference girls game in Cary.

Top scorers for the Huskies (11-9) were Ashley Raulli (10 points, 6 rebounds), Morgan Harris (9 points, 3 assists, 3 steals), Renee Poulos (8 points, 4 rebounds) and Casey Weyhrich (7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists).

Fenwick 71, Barrington 41: Angie Kirchoff (9 points) and Aoife Callanan (7) led the offense for host Barrington (13-10) in the Sweet 16 game.

Sophomore Bailee McDonald led the Fillies on the boards with 7 rebounds, followed Megan Talbot (5), Cassidy Goldsmith (4), Brynana Hopkins (3) and Alexa Resch (3).

Barrington committed 34 turnovers and was 14-of-52 from the floor against the Friars, who face Rolling Meadows at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the 23rd annual McDonald’s Shootout at Willowbrook High School in Villa Park.
