Wheaton Academy turns tables on St. Francis

Wheaton Academy overcame a rough start to rout St. Francis 52-35 Friday night at Spyglass Center in Wheaton.

St. Francis led 9-3 late in the first quarter when the Warriors (6-14, 2-5 Suburban Christian Blue) went on 10-0 run. A 4-point halftime lead reached double digits on Ali Grant’s jumper with 2:09 left in the third period, and the Spartans never got within single digits again.

“It’s obviously a huge, huge win for us,” Warriors coach Beth Mitchell said. “To come in here and win by 17 is probably one of the best games we’ve played all year.”

Freshman Jamie Netzley scored 19 points and junior Abby Olson added 11 for Wheaton Academy, which lost to St. Francis by 17 points earlier in the season.

“I think our team chemistry is finally coming along,” Mitchell said. “That’s something we’ve really been working hard on. I felt we turned a corner at the Lisle Christmas tournament, and things are just starting to click for us a little more.”
