Juniorguard Angie Kirchoff scored 18 points with 2 3-pointers, 6 rebounds and 2 steals as Barrington topped Providence Catholic 49-37 in an opening game of the Sweet 16 Girls Basketball tournament in New Lenox on Monday.
Fillies senior Alexa Resch added 12 points and 9 rebounds as Barrington improved to 13-8.
Kirchoff was 1 shy of her season-high of 19 points against Maine South in the second game of the season.
"It was really a team-oriented win," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "Angie had one of her better games. We were able to get her more scoring opportunities by playing different people at the point, so that was effective."
Freshman Bryana Hopkins (4 rebounds) added 6 points while junior Brooke Gunderson scored 5 points with a 3-pointer.
Junior Aoife Callanan grabbed 5 rebounds and freshman Megan Talbot 4 while freshman Kelly Katis handed out 2 assists.
"Brooke kind of got us started in the first quarter," Barreiro added. "And Alexa had a real nice game overall. She did some nice work in the post."
Barreiro said the game was fast-paced in the first two quarters.
"Providence is a nice team and it was a little bit of track meet in the first half," she said. "I thought our kids responded well and played real nice team defense, especially in second half.
"We were able to secure more rebounds, and control the boards which really helped. Kelly Katis gave us some good minutes off the bench."
