St. Charles North wins finale at Charger Classic

St. Charles North 60, Johnsburg 50: The North Stars (5-12) ended play at Dundee-Crown’s Charger Classic on a good note led by Ashley Davern’s 21 points and 15 from Alex Silverman.

Trailing 17-15 after one quarter, St. Charles North outscored Johnsburg 18-8 in the second to lead 33-25 at halftime.

The North Stars return to action in the new year next Saturday against Geneva.

West Aurora 62, Glenbard North 45: The Blackhawks (8-8) evened their record at 2-2 at the Falcon Classic at Wheaton North behind solid play from Abriya Zeitz (15 points, 5 rebounds), Liz Skaggs (15 points, 5 rebounds), Alexis Wiggins (5 assists) and Taylor Jacobsen (12 points).

Batavia 70, Zion-Benton 64: Liza Fruendt poured in 32 points as the Lady Bulldogs rallied for a victory in the seventh-place game at the Montini Christmas Tournament.

Batavia (12-7) trailed 34-29 at halftime, but mounted a 19-12 third quarter surge to move in front for good. Hannah Frazier added 16 points and Miranda Grizaffi hit a trio of 3-pointers to finish with 9 points in the win.

Aurora Central Catholic 47, East Aurora 45: Neither team led by more than 4 points as the Chargers prevailed despite losing co-captain Lisa Rodriguez at the beginning of the third quarter with a head injury.

Senior Co-captain Alex DeCraene stepped up with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Sophomore Kailey Soris also contributed 13 points.

The Chargers (8-6) finished in fifth place in a tournament where they were the smallest school.

Aurora Christian 48, Forreston 42: Alyssa Andersen racked up 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals to lead the Lady Eagles to the consolation championship of the Dixon Christmas Tournament. Alex Hultine added 13 points for Aurora Christian (11-6) while Natasha Brown collected 8 points and 13 rebounds. Andersen also contributed 23 points and 5 rebounds in a 52-45 win over Lanark Eastland with Melissa Moser adding 10 points,
