Kaneland, Aurora Christian reach quarterfinals
Matt Limbrunner came alive offensively and Kaneland’s defense did the rest in a 47-29 victory over Lisle on Wednesday at the 50th annual Plano Christmas Classic.
Limbrunner scored 23 points, making 7 of 12 shots from the field, 8 of 10 from the line and his only 3-point attempt.
Tyler Carlson added 11 points and John Pruett 10 as the three combined for all but 3 of Kaneland’s points.
Lisle shot just 36.1 percent from the field and made only 1 three-point field goal and 2 of 6 at the line. Kaneland led 10-8 after one quarter, 21-14 at halftime and 34-18 after three.
The 11th-seeded Knights (5-4) will play No. 14 Newark in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Thursday. Newark handled No. 3 Yorkville 50-36 led by freshman Jack Clausel’s 17 points.
Aurora Christian 94, Mendota 83: The Eagles (7-4) hit a blistering 86 percent of its shots in the second half to beat No. 4 seed Mendota 94-83 in the Plano Christmas Classic Wednesday.
Aurora Christian, who will play Hinckley-Big Rock at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals, shot 67 percent for the game. Five players scored in double figures led by Cory Windle with 31 points and Ryan McQuade with 20. Ryan Suttle added 6 assists.
