Vernon Hills extends perfect start

Vernon Hills’ girls basketball team will head into Mundelein’s holiday tournament next week still undefeated.

The Cougars defeated host Round Lake 61-33 Wednesday night to improve to 14-0 and 7-0 in the North Suburban Prairie Division.

Sydney Smith led Vernon Hills with 18 points (four 3-pointers), 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Alina Lehocky added 10 points and 5 rebounds, and Meri Bennett-Swanson chipped in 8 points.

Round Lake (1-12, 0-5) was led by Morgin Evins with 13 points,

Vernon Hills’ next game is next Wednesday, when it plays host Mundelein at 9 a.m. in the tournament opener.
