Larkin wins again in Missouri

The Larkin boys basketball team capped a successful road trip Saturday with a 54-50 victory over Hazelwood Central (Mo.) at the Route 66 Shootout in Waynesville, Mo.

The victory was the fifth straight for streaking Larkin (10-2), which defeated Republic (Mo.) 72-64 in Friday’s opener.

The Royals took an 8-point halftime lead and survived a back-and-forth second half by limiting Hazelwood Central to 34-percent shooting.

SIU signee Jordan Martin led Hazelwood Central with 25 points and 20 rebounds. The Royals countered with balanced scoring between junior guard Kendale McCullum (16 points) and senior guards Quantice Hunter (15) and Quentin Ruff (15). Sophomore center Daniel McFadden led Larkin with 8 rebounds.

“In all, the trip was a success on and off the floor,” Larkin coach Deryn Carter said. The boys represented themselves, the program, the school and the city in a first-class manner. We are proud of all 16 of them.”

Burlington Central 51, Rockford Christian 38: Ryan Ritchie hit 5 3-pointers and scored 19 points to lead the Rockets to their first win of the season in the Big Northern East opener. Moter Deng added 14 points and Reed Hunnicutt had 8 for Burlington Central (1-7, 1-0).

Westminster Christian 56, Alden-Hebron 38: Colin Brandon broke loose for 29 points to lead the Warriors (-6, 1-3) to a Northeast Athletic Conference win. Robert Kleczynski had 9 points and Sam Carani added 8 for Westminster.

Dundee-Crown 66, DeKalb 51: Brandon Rodriguez had 20 points to lead the Chargers (6-1) to a nonconference win. JT Beasley added 16 points for D-C with Cordero Parson scoring 12 and Dylan Kissack adding 8.

Lakes 67, Cary-Grove 33: Ian May had 14 points to lead the Trojans (6-3) in this nonconference loss.
