Elgin senior guard Arie Williams and Wheaton Warrenville South junior guard Meghan Waldron have earned MVP honors for their recent outstanding basketball performances.
Williams scored 28 points with 7 3-pointers in a victory against Streamwood, then produced 26 points with 5 3-pointers in an overtime loss to Geneva.
Waldron produced 22 points as the Tigers beat previously unbeaten Naperville Central in OT, then had 19 points in a victory over Naperville North.
Arie Williams, Elgin: Elgin's senior guard had a weekend to remember, despite his team going 1-1. On Friday, he scored 20 points with 6 3-pointers in the second quarter alone, on his way to a 28-point performance and 7 3-pointers in a 55-44 win over Streamwood. The next night, in a 67-65 overtime loss at Geneva, Williams came back with 26 points and 5 more 3-pointers.
Connor Chapman, Geneva: After losing for the first time this season, 55-39 to St. Charles East, Chapman and the Vikings beat Elgin in overtime, 67-65. The quick-footed 6-foot-5 senior scored a career-high 31 points on 12-of-14 field goal shooting with 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Chapman had 14 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists in the loss to St. Charles East.
Chino Ebube, Mundelein: Chino chimed in. Loudly. The highflying senior forward erupted for a career-high 27 points -- including three straight dunks during the fourth quarter -- as the Mustangs cooled off Warren 67-56. The Missouri Science and Technology recruit also had 9 rebounds and 8 blocked shots.
Robert Hudson, Conant: The senior guard had one of the most efficient performances you're likely to see, making 11 of 14 shots from the field -- including seven 3s -- to lift host Conant past Glenbrook North 46-31 in nonconference play. Hudson finished with a season-high 29 points without even attempting a free throw.
Nick Norton, Downers Grove North: With much of the team recovering from the flu, Norton led the Trojans to three victories. In wins over Glenbard South, Proviso West and Willowbrook the senior forward averaged 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Norton had 24 points, 12 boards, 5 assists and 5 blocks against the Panthers.
Meghan Waldron, Wheaton Warrenville South: The Tigers junior guard had a huge hand in two conference wins. Waldron scored 22 points -- 10 in overtime -- with 22 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in a 64-59 come-from-behind win at previously unbeaten Naperville Central. She then had 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals as WW South beat Naperville North 57-20.
Brittany Collins, Maine West: With her game-high 24 points in a 55-48 victory at Maine East, junior forward Brittany Collins reached 1,000 points in a career faster than any player Derril Kipp has coached in 32 seasons at Maine West. Collins did much more, too, grabbing 14 rebounds and 5 blocked shots in Park Ridge.
Sara Mickow, Crystal Lake South: The Gators' junior forward scored 13 points and had 13 rebounds in a 45-43 win over Cary-Grove, which was CL South's first win over the Trojans since 2009. She came back the next night with 17 points and 8 rebounds in a 43-33 win over crosstown rival Crystal Lake Central.
Carly Pottle, St. Charles East: Pottle provided just the spark St. Charles East needed in a thrilling 81-75 overtime win over Geneva, scoring 25 points, a total that included four 3-point baskets. That followed another team-high 17 points for this senior guard plus 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists in a 57-37 victory over West Chicago.
Sophia Way, Stevenson: She's been way good this season. The sophomore forward, a second-year varsity player, scored a career-high 18 points in the Patriots' 52-34 win over Lake Forest, stretching their winning streak to five. She netted 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to help the Patriots edge Libertyville 31-27.
