Larkin nabs No. 1 seed at Elgin

While Larkin’s boys basketball team has other things to worry about — like its game against crosstown rival Elgin on Wednesday — the Royals can at least take comfort in the fact their performance so far this season as earned them some form of recognition.

Larkin (7-2) has earned the No. 1 seed for the 38th annual Elgin Holiday Tournament, scheduled for Dec. 26-29 at Chesbrough Field House.

The Royals will take on Islamic Foundation in the 9 a.m. kickoff game to the tournament on Dec. 26.

Rockford East, Dundee-Crown and Las Vegas Centennial are the other top seeds in the tournament, which has a heavy flavor of Chicago schools this year.

After Larkin’s opening round game, Buffalo Grove will take on Glenbard North at 10:30 a.m., Harlan plays Batavia at noon and Hoffman Estates battles Rockford East at 1:30 p.m. to round out the top half of the bracket.

The bottom half of the bracket kicks off at 3 p.m. with Dundee-Crown taking on Chicago Raby. Defending champion Elgin meets Francis Parker at 5 p.m., setting up a possible D-C vs. Elgin game in the quarterfinals on Dec. 27.

Rockford Guilford plays Walther Lutheran at 6:45 p.m. and Centennial meets Team Englewood of Chicago at 8:15 p.m. to close out the opening round.
