Fenwick team to beat at Dundee-Crown again

The 30th annual Charger Classic pairings were released Monday, and undefeated nine-time champion Fenwick is once again the top seed.

The Friars, who scored a 99-97 overtime win over Marist on Saturday to run their record to 8-0 for the season, finished third in last year’s tournament, which was won by Bartlett.

The tournament kicks off at 10 a.m. on Dec. 26 at Dundee-Crown when St. Charles North takes on unbeaten Evanston (8-0), the No. 2 seed. Newcomer Barrington will meet Resurrection at 11:30 a.m., five-time champion Maine West takes on New Trier at 1 p.m. and Buffalo Grove meets once-beaten Naperville Central at 2:30 p.m. to close out the top half of the bracket.

On the bottom half of the bracket, defending champion Bartlett meets Mother McAuley at 4 p.m. McAuley is coached by former Waubonsie Valley and DePaul standout Ashley (Luke) Clanton, who is in her first year as the head coach of the Mighty Macs. That game will be followed by newcomer Maine South taking on host Dundee-Crown at 5:30 p.m. Maine South’s only loss this season is to Evanston.

The final two games pit Prospect against once-beaten Hononegah at 7 p.m. and Fenwick vs. Johnsburg at 8:30 p.m.
