Grayslake Central tips Hampshire

For the second Friday night in a row, Grayslake Central’s girls basketball team pulled out a close one at home.

Maddy Miller scored 12 points, and Lauren Spalding netted all 11 of her points, including three 3-pointers, in the opening quarter, as the Rams edged visiting Hampshire 40-39 in a Fox Valley Fox Division game.

Morgan Dahlstrom chipped in 9 points for Grayslake Central (5-4, 1-0), which captured a one-point win over Cary-Grove a week earlier.

Vernon Hills 49, Wauconda 24: Lauren Webb had 17 points and 4 rebounds, as the undefeated Cougars cruised in North Suburban Prairie Division action.

Meri Bennett-Swanson added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Vernon Hills (9-0, 3-0) on Pack the Pantry night. Instead of a paid admission, fans brought a nonperishable food item to get into the gym.
