South Elgin knocks off Waubonsie Valley

Trailing Waubonsie Valley by 4 points going into the fourth quarter, South Elgin’s girls basketball team used a 3-pointer from junior Sara Szalay, her only points of the game, to ignite a fourth-quarter run that ended with a 43-40 Storm win in Upstate Eight Valley play Friday night in Aurora.

Kennede Miller led the balanced South Elgin scoring attack with 11 points. Anna Tracy added 10 for the Storm (4-2, 1-0) and Delaney Kelleher had 8.

Huntley 50, CL Central 32: Sam Andrews had 24 points and 6 rebounds and Ali Anderews added 14 points and 7 rebounds as the Red Raiders (6-1) win this Fox Valley Conference crossover. Huntley led 32-13 at halftime.

Johnsburg 48, Dundee-Crown 44: Lauren Lococo and Frankie Cavallaro had 11 points each to lead the Chargers (0-7) in an FVC crossover loss. Emily Michalski added 9 points for Dundee-Crown and Jillian Weichmann had 8.

St. Charles East 52, Larkin 21: Quixmia Washington had 9 points to lead Larkin (0-6, 0-1) in the Upstate Eight River.

Grayslake North 65, Jacobs 46: Jen Barnec’s 14 points led Jacobs (0-7) in an FVC crossover loss. Victoria Tamburrino had 8 points for the Golden Eagles.

Kirkland 45, Harvest Christian 29: Morgan Lockwood and Kylee Knox had 8 points each for Harvest Christian (0-3).

Elgin Academy 38, North Shore Country Day 27: Rachel Cain had 16 points and Kaitlyn Pearson added 10 to lead the Hilltoppers (3-3, 1-0) to an Independent School League win.

Grayslake Central 45, Cary-Grove 44: Joslyn Nicholson had 22 points and Olivia Jakubicek added 9 but the Trojans (4-3) fell short in an FVC crossover.
