Tournament victories for Vernon Hills, Lake Zurich

Stephen Curry scored a game-high 16 points to go with 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals as Vernon Hills earned a 64-37 victory over Guerin in Battle at the Ridge tournament play Wednesday at Northridge Prep.

Nate Rathod had 3 of Vernon Hills’ 11 3-pointers and finished with 11 points.

Michael Mariella made a pair of 3s and finished with 9 points for the Cougars (2-0), who made 9 of 11 fouls shots.

Lake Zurich 57, Addison Trail 50: John Repplinger provided a big spark to Lake Zurich’s offense in the second half, and his defensive work against Addison Trail junior guard James Pupillo was a constant plus for Lake Zurich in tournament play at West Chicago.

The Blazers led 27-21 at the half before Repplinger, Jack O’Neill and Ryan Roach each made 3-pointers to put Lake Zurich back in front. The Bears (2-1) never again trailed and outscored Addison Trail 20-5 in the third quarter.

Pupillo finished with a game-high 25 points.

“He is just a phenomenal player — you can never relax on him or leave him open,” said Lake Zurich coach Billy Pitcher of Pupillo. “ ‘Rep’ gave us a huge lift, though. I think his aggressiveness on defense transferred into more aggressiveness on offense, and he had his best game in two years.”

Repplinger’s 15 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds were career highs.

O’Neill finished with three 3s and made 2 clutch free three throws with 30 seconds.

Lakes 70, Uplift 60: At Mundelein, the Eagles got what coach Chris Snyder called a “good bounce-back win” to improve to 2-1 in the tournament.

Direll Clark led all scorers with 21 points. Troy Swindle added 19, and Andrew Spencer had 13 in his first game of the season.

Grant 64, Freeport 42: At Johnsburg, Tom Blanchette scored a career-high 27 points for the Bulldogs, who improved to 2-0 in the Johnsburg/Richmond-Burton tournament.

Steve Dunning added 13 points for Grant.
