Fish fills it up as Grayslake North tops Wauconda

After producing a Lake County-best 176 points during the football season, A.J. Fish was back to being productive with a ball in his hand again Tuesday night.

Fish scored 19 points to lead Grayslake North’s basketball team to a season-opening 54-49 win over Wauconda at Richmond-Burton in opening-round action of the Johnsburg/Richmond-Burton tournament.

The score was tied 36-36 after three quarters, before Grayslake North outscored Wauconda 18-13 in the fourth. The Knight also received 12 points from Nick Carmody and 11 from Danny Mateling.

Wauconda was led by Kodey Thomas’ 15 points and 3 steals. Keith Blomberg and Austin Swenson added 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Bulldogs. Swenson also had 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Ricky Sidlowski scored 8 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for Wauconda.

Grant 70, Machesney Park Harlem 63: At Johnsburg, the Bulldogs won their season opener behind Rayvon Jones’ 17 points and Tom Blanchette’s 16.

North Chicago 102, Waukegan 65: At Warren, JaVairius Amos-Mays scord 30 points, hitting seven 3-pointers, as the Warhawks improved to 2-0 in the Mundelein/Warren tournament.
