Elk Grove (4-0) will host Hoffman Estates (4-0) for the tourney championship on Saturday at noon.

Grayslake Central 41, Buffalo Grove 36: Sophomore guard Julia Jambrone led the Bison (2-1) with 17 points while Kimberly Herzog added 8 in the third-round game of the Bison Classic at Maine South High School.

Jambrone was starting in only her third varsity game.

“She really played well,” said BG first-year coach Steve Kolodziej. “She played with composure and didn’t show any inexperience. She played with a lot of poise.”

The Bison were down 11 after three quarters.

“We challenged them at that point to come and show what they were made of,” Kolodziej said. “And they responded by battling to the end and playing hard. We’ve just got to do that for four quarters.”

Bison senior center Bailey North (11 points in the season-opening win over Westinghouse), the team’s leading scorer and rebounder last season, missed her second straight game with a sprained ankle suffered in practice last Friday.

“Offensively, we struggled in the second and third quarters and we didn’t get shots to fall,” Kolodziej added. “We’ve just got to understand as a team each player has to do her job as an individual. And we’ve got to get better on defense. We’re a young team. We’ve got to come our ready to play.”

Antioch 47, Wheeling 40: Sophomores Hailey Dammeier (17 points, 3 3-pointers) and Hannah Dobrowski (11) were top scorers for Wheeling (0-3).
