Hennek, Christian Liberty stun North Shore

Christian Liberty hopes it planted a seed with the top-seeded team in its Class 1A boys basketball regional tournament next week.

Mike Hennek’s baseline jumper with five seconds left gave the Chargers only their second lead of the game but also a 56-55 nonconference victory over North Shore Country Day on Wednesday night at Grace Gym in Arlington Heights.

Christian Liberty (17-10), which is seeded second, rallied from a 12-point third-quarter deficit. Kyle Moriarty (14 points), Luke Comerouski (13 points), Ben Thomas (11 points) and Hennek (8 points) led the way offensively.

North Shore plays next Tuesday’s 6 p.m. Christian Liberty regional semifinal against Chicagoland Jewish or Roycemore. The hosts play at 8:10 p.m. against Yeshiva or St. Martin de Porres from Waukegan. The title game is at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 23.
