Another rough fourth quarter hurts Palatine

Palatine’s boys basketball team played a solid three quarters for the second straight game Tuesday night.

But the Pirates (1-15) saw a 4-point lead going into the final eight minutes turn into a 58-51 nonconference loss to Glenbrook South at the Titan Dome in Glenview.

“We played well in spurts like we did Friday against Schaumburg,” coach Eric Millstone said of a 47-37 loss where Palatine trailed by a point after three quarters. “We did some good things for three quarters.

“Unfortunately the quarter we’re not playing well is the fourth quarter. We give up an offensive rebound or miss an easy basket. It’s a matter of going and finishing out the game.”

Senior John Millin scored a career-high 22 points for Palatine, which led 42-38 after three. Justin Busiel had 22 to lead the Titans (5-11).

Glenbrook North 54, Maine West 42: Conor Hart scored 18 points as Maine West (7-7, 2-2) led 22-21 at halftime in the Central Suburban North game at Rider Gym in Des Plaines.

Hart was 7-for-14 from the field and Kevin Garcia added 9 points for the Warriors, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Adam Chick scored 19 points on 8-for-9 shooting as Glenbrook North (12-3, 3-1) led 34-31 after three quarters and moved into a first-place tie in the division with Highland Park.

Rockford Christian Life 67, Christian Liberty 59: A fourth-quarter rally from a 17-point deficit fell short as Christian Liberty (9-6, 2-2) had a six-game winning streak snapped in the Northeastern Athletic Conference game at Grace Gym in Arlington Heights.

Kyle Moriarty scored 18 points, Mike Hennek had 14 and Luke Comerouski added 13 and hit three 3s for the Chargers. They trailed 39-22 at halftime and 54-37 after three quarters.

Leyden 40, Hinsdale South 38: Visiting Leyden (10-4, 3-2) avenged an earlier home West Suburban Gold loss to the Hornets (8-7, 3-3).
