Laird’s 31 lift Burlington Central to win

Senior Jessica Laird struck for a career-high 31 points Thursday to lead the Burlington Central girls basketball team to a 69-35 win over Woodstock on the final day of play in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic at Woodstock North.

Laird hit five 3-pointers, 4 of them in the first half when she scored 24 of her points in leading the Rockets (6-8) to a 44-21 lead at halftime.

Sarah Nelson added 9 points for Burlington Central.

Zion-Benton 71, Cary-Grove 54: Cary-Grove fell behind 35-24 at halftime and couldn’t recover in losing the third-place game at the Mundelein tournament. Olivia Jakubicek had 20 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists to lead the Trojans (8-5), while Alyssa Lee added 9.

Rockford Auburn 60, Streamwood 56: Jessica Cerda and Hannah McGlone each had 19 points but the Sabres (6-7) couldn’t hang onto a 12-point lead and lost to Rockford Auburn on the final day of play at the Lady Mustangs Classic at Mundelein.

CL South 46, Jefferson 35: Sara Mickow had 20 points to lead the Gators (6-10) to a win at the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic. Lauren Delvecchio and Rachel Rasmussen each had 8 points for CL South.

Huntley 45, Waukegan 22: Sam Andrews, who was named to the all-tournament team, had 18 points as Huntley (9-4) came away with a win on the final day of the Mundelein tournament. Haley Ream added 9 points, 5 assists and 3 steals for the Red Raiders.
