Hardwood Classic pairings set

Fremd, the newest addition to Wheeling’s Wildcat Hardwood Classic boys basketball tournament, will cap off the first round of play.

Pairings for the 34th annual Hardwood Classic were released Friday with Fremd facing Niles North, last year’s runnerup, at 8:45 p.m. on Dec. 27. The title game is at 8:45 p.m. on Dec. 30.

Lake Park and Deerfield start the tourney at 9 a.m. Defending champion Notre Dame plays Vernon Hills at 10:30 a.m.

The other first-round matchups are Loyola-Prospect at 12:15 p.m., Stevenson-Streamwood at 2 p.m., Naperville Central-Carmel at 3:45 p.m., St. Viator-Maine West at 5:30 p.m. and Libertyville-Wheeling at 7:15 p.m.

Elgin Holiday Tournament: Buffalo Grove and Francis Parker will start the 37th annual Elgin Holiday Tournament at 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 19. The tourney runs through Dec. 22.

Hoffman Estates will meet Dundee-Crown at 12:45 p.m. on Dec. 19. Other first-round matchups include nationally ranked La Lumiere (Ind.) vs. Walther Lutheran at 2:15 p.m., Batavia-Rockford East at 11:15 a.m., Rockford Guilford-Neuqua Valley at 3:45 p.m., Harlan-Larkin at 5:15 p.m., Glenbard North-Romeoville at 6:45 p.m. and Senn-Elgin at 8:15 p.m.

Jacobs Tournament: Elk Grove and Barrington are in the same pool of the Jacobs tournament and will meet on the first day at 6 p.m. on Dec. 17.

On Dec. 19, Barrington plays Rockford Jefferson at 1:30 p.m. and Jacobs plays Elk Grove at 3 p.m. On Dec. 20, Barrington plays Jacobs at noon and Elk Grove meets Jefferson at 1:30 p.m.

There will be an off day on Dec. 21 with the tourney finishing Dec. 22-23. Jacobs is playing early games Monday and Tuesday because some participating schools will still be in session.
