Boys basketball/Scouting Fox Valley weekend

Today

Class 2A Plano regional championship

No. 1 Westminster Christian (22-5) vs. No. 2 Genoa-Kingston (12-15), 7:30 p.m.: The Warriors vie for the second regional boys basketball title in school history against a team they defeated by 14 points on Dec. 11. The Cogs built a 21-point lead in their semifinal against host Plano and held on to win by 4 points.

Upstate Eight (River)

Elgin (20-5, 9-2) at Streamwood (7-18, 3-8), 7:30 p.m.: The Maroons already own a piece of the UEC River title. A win over the Sabres or a St. Charles North loss at Geneva would give Elgin the title outright.

Larkin (4-21, 0-11) at St. Charles East (12-13, 6-5), 7:30 p.m.: The Royals nearly knocked the Saints off on Jan. 15 before succumbing in Elgin, 53-48. St. Charles East has won 8-of-12 games in 2011.

Upstate Eight (Valley)

Bartlett (16-13, 5-6) at Waubonsie Valley (15-10, 5-6), 7:30 p.m.: The Hawks put their 6-game winning streak on the line against the Warriors, a team Bartlett defeated 56-50 on Jan. 25.

South Elgin (13-11, 5-6) at Lake Park (12-13, 2-9), 7:30 p.m.: The Storm have an opportunity to finish with a .500 record in the brutal UEC Valley if they can win on the road in Roselle.

Fox Valley Conference crossovers

Crystal Lake Central (21-4, 11-1) at Crystal Lake South (14-10, 4-6), 7 p.m.: Grab a seat early because the annual battle of Crystal Lake should be a doozy. The Tigers are champions of the FVC Fox Division. The Gators have won four straight since the return of their starting point guard, tying their longest win streak of the season.

Dundee-Crown (12-11, 4-6) at Grayslake North (18-7, 8-4), 7 p.m.: The Chargers ended a 4-game slide last Friday with a key victory at rival Jacobs. D-C looks to gain momentum with a second straight win heading into next week’s Class 4A Larkin regional.

McHenry (14-10, 2-7) at Jacobs (14-12, 6-3), 7 p.m.: The Golden Eagles and Warriors tangle for the second time in four days due to revamped scheduling in the wake of the Blizzard of 2011. Jacobs beat McHenry 51-40 on Tuesday.

Nonconference

Marengo (6-20, 2-8) at Huntley (21-4, 9-1), 7 p.m.: The Red Raiders have won 20 games for the third time in coach Marty Manning’s five seasons in Huntley.

Saturday

Nonconference

Hampshire (19-5) at South Elgin, 6 p.m.: Center Tyler Watzlawick (6-foot-7) is expected to return to action after missing 3 games with an ankle injury. South Elgin point guard Jake Maestranzi is a 90-percent free-throw shooter.
