Girls basketball/Fox Valley roundup

Westminster Christian’s girls basketball team knocked off Class 4A Elgin 52-50 in overtime Friday night at Chesbrough Field House.

The Class 2A Warriors (12-7) were led by 14 points from Katie Surratt and 11 from Whitney VandenBos. Makaila Hays added 8.

Briana Hamilton had a career night for Elgin (0-20), scoring 29 points. Maria Panthier added 7 for the Maroons.

“It’s great to start a new rivalry,” said Elgin coach Dr. Nick Bumbales. “The kids played hard we just couldn’t hit our foul shots.”

The Maroons were just 10-for-25 from the free-throw line while Westminster was 13 of 20.

Richmond-Burton 51, Burlington Central 49: Brenda Thasavong had 16 points and Jessica Laird 12 but BC (9-12, 3-4) came up just short in the Big Northern East. Alli Settanni added 11 points for Central.

Streamwood 57, Larkin 25: Emma Schmidt scored 15 points and Michelle Tomczak 14 as the Sabres (16-3, 6-1) remained in first place in the Upstate Eight River with this win. Amanda Patterson added 8 points for Streamwood. Maggie Hoffman led Larkin (3-17, 2-5).
